When Cassper dropped his first album, Tsholofelo, we didn't know what to expect. Well correction we expected it to be mediocre at best. Mainly because we hadn't heard much from him and were convinced he was a one hit wonder. But it was much more than we expected, it was good. There were a few wack tracks here and there and some songs that seemed to have been thrown in as fillers but all in all we realised there was more to Cassper than we had initially thought.
Coming on to the 2nd album we had heard alot more from Cassper and had certain expectations from him.
Firstly Refiloe is different from Cassper's debut album, I kinda wanted him to continue where he had left of but what he did was just show us his variety. This album is alot more focused and the sounds of the different songs do a better job of keeping the album insync. He's more relaxed and more confident about not giving us turn up songs and keeping the experience more about his life and what he went through since he had "made it". There's alot and I mean alot of references to AKA, not directly, and the other rappers in the game; kind of a statement that I'm the new king and yall will have to deal.
Been banging the album 3 days straight now and I don't skip much songs. Even "428 to La" and "Mama I made it" are still good listens though they've been out for a while. My favourite songs have to be "Mmangwane" , the new version of "Strive" which is way better than an earlier version he had released, "War Ready", "Bheki'ndaba Zakho"s a nice tune to sing along to, "Upper" where Cassper's freedom to experiment is apparent he has fun with the track, Tse Tswembu Tse Blind ft DJ Drama and Cooking in the Kitchen featuring the Game which was everyone's favourite leaving the Dome after Cassper also did the dance on stage.
It's a good piece of work solidifying that Cassper is not a one hit, one album and hopefully not a one #fillupthedome wonder. What a time it is in our hip hop industry, how far will we go from here we'll have to see.
